Saturday, August 15, 2026 -Three pro-government soldiers were killed and seven others injured after fighting erupted between Yemeni government-aligned forces and Houthi fighters in southwestern Taiz province.
The clashes broke out Friday on the Al-Barh front in western Taiz after Houthi forces reportedly launched an attack on positions held by the National Resistance forces, according to a military spokesperson.
The fighting reportedly lasted for hours, with Houthi forces attacking from several directions while using artillery and covering fire and attempting to infiltrate military positions.
Government-aligned forces said they responded with counterattacks and ambushes, claiming that between 45 and 55 Houthi fighters were killed, wounded or went missing. The Houthis have not immediately commented on those battlefield claims.
The latest clashes underscore the renewed volatility in Yemen, where a relative lull has deteriorated as fighting has resurfaced in several provinces, including Taiz.
The escalation comes alongside fresh violence around Mokha, where Yemeni authorities said a port security officer was killed and civilians were injured in a missile attack blamed on the Houthis. With tensions rising again, Taiz is emerging as a critical frontline to watch as both sides face pressure to prevent a broader escalation.
