Saturday, August 15, 2026 -At least nine people, including three children, were killed in Israeli airstrikes across southern Lebanon on Saturday, August 15, in one of the deadliest incidents since the fragile ceasefire with Hezbollah took effect in June.
Lebanon’s Health Ministry said an airstrike on a home near Ansar killed seven people and wounded two, while another strike in Deir al-Zahrani killed two and injured nine.
The strikes are raising fresh fears that the ceasefire is rapidly losing its ability to prevent further bloodshed.
Israel said its military targeted Hezbollah infrastructure after what it described as an action against Israeli soldiers in the area, while Lebanese officials condemned the attacks and warned that continued strikes could undermine diplomatic efforts aimed at stabilizing the situation.
The latest deaths put renewed pressure on international mediators to act before the violence escalates further. With civilians once again bearing the cost of renewed attacks, the immediate challenge is protecting communities in southern Lebanon while keeping negotiations alive.
