Sunday, October 11, 2026 -Cardiff’s vibrant live music scene is taking centre stage in a new exhibition celebrating the concerts, venues and unforgettable experiences that have shaped generations of music fans. Titled Our City, Our Stories, the free exhibition opens at Central Library Hub on October 12, 2026, showcasing more than 70 personal accounts from residents who witnessed some of the city’s most memorable musical moments.
From legendary performances by The Beatles and The Clash to local festivals and grassroots gigs, the project aims to preserve the stories behind Cardiff’s rich musical identity.
Visitors will be able to explore recordings, historic concert tickets, gig posters and other memorabilia that bring decades of live music experiences to life. Ten selected oral history recordings will feature in an interactive audio display, while full interviews can be heard through retro tape players and Walkman devices.
The project brought younger volunteers together with older residents to record personal memories, helping preserve experiences that might otherwise have been lost. More than 100 people signed up to participate, contributing over 500 volunteer hours to the initiative.
Running from October 12 to 24, the exhibition forms part of the Cardiff Music City Festival and offers an opportunity for residents and visitors to connect with the city’s cultural heritage. Organisers say the project celebrates not only famous performers but also the audiences, friendships and community experiences that make live music meaningful.
Following its Central Library run, smaller versions of the exhibition are expected to tour community hubs across Cardiff. The initiative also highlights the importance of preserving local stories and ensuring future generations can discover the music and venues that helped shape the Welsh capital.
